This one day event is an amazing opportunity for families to pack a shoebox full of responsible gifts to help children who usually go without at Christmas time.
This month at DWHE, you have the opportunity to support local businesses as well as international communities. There will be stallholders with handmade and local gifts which you can choose to fill your shoebox.
Each of the carefully selected stallholders are making important contributions to social justice and environmental causes. Makes sense, right!
Operation Christmas Child is an ongoing project in which you are invited to fill a shoebox which will be sent to a child in a developing country.
All you have to do is follow the How to Pack a Shoebox Guide and send it off!
We have put together a handy gift guide to help you choose what to put in your shoebox:
A cute hairelastic from Sisterworks for a child to tie their hair and to empower the most vulnerable asylum seeker, refugee and migrant women in Melbourne.
A roll of toilet paper from Who Gives a Crap for a child to wipe their bum and to help with sanitation in the developing world.
A bamboo hairbrush from Hope Collective for a child to brush their hair and to support environmentally sustainable timber.
A hand-knitted finger puppet from Oz Fair Trade for a child to play with and to promote fair trade and ethical fashion.
A stuffed elephant toy from Seven Women for a child to cuddle and to empower marginalised women through skills training & employment.
A wooden kaleidoscope from Fair and Just Collective to inspire a child’s imagination and to support fair trade.
A solar powered torch from Illumination Solar to give a child access to safe, clean and free lighting. Buy one torch and they will donate another torch to someone who needs it.
