PITCH FOR GOOD

July 31, 2015

Congratulations to all the finalists at Pitch for Good!

Start Some Good partnered with the City of Melbourne, The League of Extraordinary Women and Forming Circles to present Pitch for Good at Donkey Wheel House last Thursday.

Four female-lead social enterprise start ups were chosen as the finalists from a pool of applicants, then, in a live crowd funding event, these startups pitched for funding.

All four of the finalists took home a share of the funds raised at the door, but there could only be one overall winner. Bright Sparks Australia was named the winner of $3000 of funding! Here’s a quick look at each of the finalists:

The Community Grocer is a weekly open fruit and vegetable market at 510 Lygon Street in Carlton. It was started in October 2014, and provides access for over 130 people living in public housing to fresh and affordable food. The Community Grocer also provides a free weekly vegetarian BBQ which provides the opportunity for customers to meet and share a meal together.

The Nappy Collective Inc. (TNC) is a community based not for profit charity based in Melbourne. Harnessing the power of collective giving, The Nappy Collective run bi annual national campaigns to collect left over unused disposable nappies which are then distributed to organisations that support families in crisis and victims of family violence at a critical time.

Bright Sparks is a not-for-profit enterprise that will rescue small appliances to keep them out of landfill.

Recipe 4 Change is a team of like- minded food professionals working together to open a food space in the City of Melbourne to provide a workplace for job seekers of all abilities to learn and grow in a supportive and encouraging environment, where we celebrate who you are. We want to close the gap on food waste, unemployment and food insecurity.

We look forward to seeing all of these guys growing and kicking more goals in the future. Good luck!
